One could argue that the GoPro action camera is the most famous and well-known camera of all time. The GoPro is so synonymous with a specific camera type and content style that its name itself is more often than not used to describe its own type and style.

Since the first GoPro camera was launched in 2004, GoPro has released a long line of high-quality action cameras that have been widely adopted and utilized by a diverse range of action videographers, travel vloggers, and numerous high-octane content creators.

Still, while GoPro may be a household name these days, its video editing app—GoPro Quik—is less well-known to many.

If you’re curious about trying out GoPro Quik for the first time, or simply looking to explore how to better edit your action and adventure footage with GoPro’s accompanying app, let’s go over everything you need to get started with GoPro Quik.

What is GoPro Quik?

Originally developed as GoPro Studio, a simple video editing software designed to edit GoPro-shot camera footage, Quik was released with the GoPro HERO5. The latest version of the GoPro Quik app was released in 2024, and it now features a comprehensive suite of tools for editing photos and videos on iOS, Android, and Mac devices.

GoPro Quik enables users to import shots directly from their GoPro cameras, phones, or other sources, and then quickly and easily transform them into shareable edits. Quik also includes several tools and features that allow users to access automatic highlights, premium editing tools, and the ability to upload to the cloud.

GoPro Quik is simpler, easier, and more user-friendly than more advanced video editing software options, such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Apple Final Cut Pro, and Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve. If you’re familiar with these desktop-based NLEs, they will always be better options; however, if you’re looking for a quick and easy way to edit your GoPro-shot footage, Quik is worth considering.

How to download GoPro Quik?

GoPro Quik is free to download and use, making it easy to get started. If you’ve recently purchased a GoPro camera, you’ll likely find instructions on how to get started with GoPro Quik in the box your camera comes in.

The GoPro Quik app can also be downloaded directly from the Apple App Store for iOS devices or from Google Play for Android devices. To install, users simply need to connect their GoPro to the app via Bluetooth or WiFi, and they’ll be able to quickly sync, edit, and share footage by using the GoPro Quik app on their smartphone or device.
