In The Little Prince, there’s a moment when the narrator and the Prince sit together atop a sand dune in the desert. The Little Prince remarks, “The stars are beautiful because of a flower that can not be seen. What makes the desert beautiful is that somewhere it hides a well.”
This sentiment applies to us as both creators and people.
Creativity is an outward expression of how the creator views the world. But sharing a part of our inner world is frightening. Left unchecked, that fear gives rise to self doubt and prevents us from taking risks.
So what is it in us that we keep hidden? What is it in us that we fear others will see?
On this episode, we look for answers to these questions with self-taught writer and artist Meera Lee Patel.
Meera is the author of “My Friend Fear: Finding Magic in the Unknown,” a meditation on fear and how it can help us discover who we truly are — if we let it. She’s also the creator of “Made out of Stars: A Journal for Self-Realization” and “Start Where You Are: A Journal for Self-Exploration.”
Her writing has appeared in Vogue India, Spirituality and Health, and Flow Magazine. Her clients include Anthropology, Chronicle Books, Food 52, Life is Good, and Unicef.
We spoke with Meera to about her experiences with overcoming fear and how she’s built a stable artistic career.
