Big News: YouTube Channel Listing Is Here

Listing your channel will clear content claims automatically - and you won't have to do a thing.

Content claims are one of the biggest headaches facing creators today, and thanks to more aggressive reviews by Youtube, they are about to become more frequent for many creators.  Even when you’ve taken all the right steps— subscribe to a “royalty-free” content provider, obtain  a legal license, verify the usage terms, etc.— your videos can sometimes still get flagged.

But we’ve got you covered!  Soundstripe is gearing up to release our new YouTube content claim protection feature - and we know you’re going to love it.

This new Soundstripe feature allows you to whitelist your YouTube channel with us. That way, when content claims are issued by YouTube, we can quickly identify your channel and clear the claim immediately for you.  And you won’t have to do a thing.

Our YouTube channel whitelisting feature will go live soon. So in the meantime, let’s examine why Content ID can be such a headache, and why whitelisting is the best solution.

What Is Content ID?

Content ID is a database of over 75 million music and audio files that Google uses to track and manage copyrighted content on YouTube.

Copyright owners, i.e., musicians and filmmakers who created the original content, add their work to Content ID to ensure it’s not used without their permission.

Whenever a new video is uploaded to YouTube, Content ID references it against the files in its database. If it finds a match, it alerts the copyright owner. The copyright owner can then do one of three things:

  • Take your video down so it can’t be seen
  • Monetize your video with ads from which the copyright owner receives revenue
  • Get access to your video’s analytics data, like number of viewers, ad performance, and more

Copyright owners typically go with the second option, but by using licensed content from Soundstripe, you can avoid this situation altogether.

How do you do that, exactly? You get permission from the copyright owner to use their work. The easiest way to do that is to license your stock media from a library like Soundstripe.

But the system isn’t perfect. Even when you have a license, there are still scenarios where Content ID will flag your videos.

What’s more, new international legislation is on the way that will move the responsibility for identifying copyrighted content from the video owner (you) to the social media platform (YouTube).

This means we expect to see a big rise in content claims on videos - even when you’ve licensed your songs legally.

Why You Should Whitelist

When you whitelist your channel, you’re providing Soundstripe (as the copyright owner) a way to verify your license automatically when YouTube tells us someone is using our music.

This way, if you do receive a content claim on a listed YouTube channel, Soundstripe is able to release it automatically — usually within minutes.

Whitelisting with Soundstripe

In the very near future, you’ll be able to whitelist your channel directly through Soundstripe. That means every time you use Soundstripe music, you’ll be covered for content claims.

The number of channels you can whitelist varies based on your subscription. Here’s a breakdown:

Monthly: 1 channel

Yearly: 5 channels

If you’re creating and posting content on behalf of clients, you’ll also be able to generate a one-time use code to cover their video(s).

We know Content ID is one of the biggest challenges facing creators today. YouTube is absolutely massive, so being able to upload your videos there without fear of being flagged is paramount.

The solution is right around the corner. And we can’t wait to share it with you.
